Go to Minnis Management plan 2004 Go to alternative Grazing Plan
Following Public Consultation, the Managers of Stelling Minnis Common and Stelling Minnis Charitabale Trust resolved that there was substantial public support and acceptance of the need to re-introduce grazing on a sustainable basis.
Godfrey Jordan introduced a "stand alone" grazing proposal (a copy of which is attached to the minutes) which The Managers felt had considerable merit. Who would "employ" the stockman or would the stockman be self employed, needed clarification.
Therefore it was agreed that an application to DEFRA for a further 10 years funding to include a sensitive introduction to grazing would be made.
The application at this stage would not include cattle grids, but may include temporary stock fencing.
Additional features to be included in the detail of the application were:-
Ponds to be created/cleared;
Progress proposals to discourage driving on the Minnis and this to be in conjunction with;
The Safe Route to Schools initiative.
This work to be in addition to continuing regular mowing and scrub clearance
