From Simon Kubelec seeking Jeff Stone and others – 28 July 2002

Sorry to use this forum, but I can' locate another. My name is Simon Kubelec, I am an English teacher living and working in China, but lived for many years in Stelling Minnis / Rhodes Minnis Area

I was very good friends with Jeff Stone and his family, his father used to be the local policeman, and they lived in the old Police House next to the shop. That was a few years ago.

Does Jeff still live in the village ? He'd be about 35 now- and may be working as a carpenter / joiner. Knowing him as a creature of habit he'll probably be a local at the Rose and Crown (a very regular local), which he managed for a short period -some years back.

I'd be very grateful if you could take the time to send me a line and let me know if he's still about, perhaps you may know him ?

I'd also be interested to know anything of Ken Star: the Poultry Farmer that lives in the converted barn on the corner, and George Poil, the game keeper.

Very grateful for any information you could send.

Please reply to: simonqqq@ms32.hinet.net

Thanks very much for your help.

Simon Kubelec

From Amanda Fearns seeking the Collard family – 14 August 2002

I have been trying to find information about Stelling and came acroos your website. My family originate from there and I would therefore be grateful if you could put the message below on the 'seeking present or past villagers' section for me.

Person Sought: Collard family
Message: My family originate in Stelling, Kent and I wondered if any remaining villagers are connected to the Collard family.

My ancestor was William John Collard born 1814 in Stelling and married Mary Ann Parker in
Seasalter, Kent.

He was a mariner and came up to the North East living for a while in
Tynemouth. 3 of his 4 children remained in the North East and it seems he moved back to Kent living in Stone St, Upper Hardres in 1881.

Also if anybody knows if there is a graveyard with memorial inscriptions that have any Collard family there I would be very interested to hear.

Thanks in advance

From Liz Bruce seeking Cook/Woollett/Gilham families – 11 October 2002

I am trying to find information on my great grandmother's family who lived at Stelling Minnis and the surrounding villages. I would also
like to contact any descendants who still live in the area.

My Great Grandmother was Emma COOK, born c1865, she married William Joseph GRIFFIN at Stelling in 1889.
Emma's parents were William & Esther COOK. They were at Church Lane Stelling in 1901.

Some of Emma's brothers and sisters lived on farms at Stelling & Bossingham.

Some related names are WOOLLETT and GILHAM.

I would be grateful for any information

Best wishes

From: Ann Passeri (nee Weldon) seeking information on Willaim Nettleton (1849) - added 4 January 2006

I am trying to find information after the date of 1901 on my G G Grandfather William Nettleton born 1849. In 1900 he married Emily Coles Seagrave at St Michaels Church Folkestone, and then in 1901 I find them living in 'Olive Tree Cottage' Stelling Minnis with two daughters - Dorothy E Nettleton 2 yrs and Mary E Nettleton 1 month old. In the 1901 census Olive Tree Cottage is situated between Gordon House and Apple Tree Farm, there was also a Sunnyside House Mill House and Myrtle House nearby. I only know that he died in Dover in 1905 and how or exactly where it happened I have no idea. I just wondered if anyone might have any info. that they might have gleaned from their past relatives or friends.
