Contact The Hundred Join The Hundred Programme of events Committee meeting notes

is an organisation linking the
villages of Bossingham, Lower Hardres, Nackington, Petham, Stelling Minnis,
Upper Hardres and Waltham.
The purpose is to create and effect requested activities and opportunities which
may be beyond the scope of the separate villages and their current societies.
A Hundred was the name for a group of villages at the time of the Doomsday Book.
The organisation was formed in 2000 when it performed a musical community show
entitled "This is Your Story", which depicted happenings within the villages
during the last 2 millenniums.
A second musical, "Singing in the Reign", was performed in November 2002, as
part of the celebrations for The Queen's fifty years of rule.
In June 2005, a Festival of Country Life and Arts was held in different venues
throughout villages.
There are now three main spokes within The Hundred, namely:-
Monthly talks
Monthly professional music performances and plays
Monthly walks on local footpaths, usually to local pubs!

MINUTES OF COMMITTEE MEETING NO. 1 OF 2009.
TUESDAY 28TH APRIL 2009 - CHINA COTTAGE, PETHAM
Present:-Richard Wickham (Chairman), Trevor Conway, Ian Wrigley and David Barlow (Secretary).
1) Apologies were not required.
2) The minutes of the previous meeting (25.11.08) were ratified and signed by the chairman.
3) Action Points.
a) With regard to a possible theatre trip, either TC or IW will purchase tickets when suitable performances are available. ACTION TC AND IW CARRIED FORWARD.
b) In connection with the possibility of recruiting new committee members, RW advised that he had identified six people whom he feels would “bring something to the committee”. He has written to them but to date no responses have been received. ACTION RW TO REPORT ANY DEVELOPMENTS AT THE NEXT MEETING.
4) Hundred Talks and Hundred Shows.
RW reported that two Talks had taken place since the last meeting, i.e., Dr. Puckett about bats, and Mike Martin concerning Victoria Cross heroes. Regarding the latter, only 26 members had attended and the evening had cost £88.11.
On 3rd December 2008, the Christmas Show had been very successful. Free refreshments had been provided and the total cost was £82.81, less wine sales. Enquiries have already been received in connection with this year’s show, and John Hursey had offered his services as MC. RW has subsequently contacted him to confirm the committee’s wish for him to undertake this role, and John has agreed to do so. Members agreed in principle to go ahead with a show, probably on Wednesday 2nd December.
RW reported that all four Shows had been successful with a net overall profit of £8.31 having been banked.
TC tabled a summary of details concerning Shows during the last four years. This showed a net profit of £995 over the period, although the 2008/9 season had been less successful in terms of both attendance and income. Ticket prices will be increased slightly for the next season on a fairly even basis for each show. Bar prices will also be raised.
TC and his team were congratulated by the committee for the great success of the Hundred Shows Group.
5) Annual General Meeting.
Because of holiday arrangements RW stated that he would like to bring forward the date of the end of The Hundred’s financial year to 30th September. Also, it would be helpful if the AGM were to be held on the actual evening (prior to) of the October Talk. Wednesday 14th was suggested. RW has subsequently booked Lower Hardres Village Hall for that date. (The hall has also been booked for Talks on 11th November, 3rd February 2010 and 3rd March 2010)
Committee members agreed to the change of the date for the end of the financial year.
6) Other business
a) DB advised that Upper Hardres PCC would like to go ahead with an art exhibition in the church on the weekend of 24th/25th October. He enquired as to whether or not The Hundred could provide display boards and also if it were able to give publicity to the event, should it go ahead.
RW will make enquiries about Rotary display boards.
Members gave DB details of local artists who might be interested in exhibiting their paintings. DB advised that the Stelling Minnis Art Club is willing to participate.
ACTION DB TO PURSUE MATTERS WITH THE PCC AND TO REPORT TO THE NEXT MEETING.
b) RW stated that the bank balances are £849-03 in the current account and £2030.71 in the business instant access account.
7) Next meeting
This is to be held on Tuesday 14th July 7.30pm at Earley House.
THE HUNDRED ANNUAL GENERAL
MEETING 2007.
TUESDAY 20th NOVEMBER 2007 at BOSSINGHAM VILLAGE HALL.
1) Richard Wickham (Chairman) welcomed 12 members to the 8th AGM.
2) Apologies were received from B.Toogood, M and C Hood-Cree, S and R Steel, N.
Hunt, J Canney, M and H Powell, A Wiltshier.
3) The Minutes of the 2006 AGM were approved and signed.
4) Richard Wickham presented his Chairman’s Report. He advised that the last 12
months had been another busy and eventful year for The Hundred. Following
discussion at a committee meeting in May, it had been decided that the annual
subscription for 2007/8 should be held at £3 per member minimum. However, many
members had responded positively to a request for voluntary additional monies
with their subs. There is currently a membership of 127. The Hundred has
continued its policy of printing colourful, eye-catching newsletters and,
additionally, information regarding activities is communicated to people living
in the area through Parish Magazines, local newspapers and posters and flyers.
About 30% of members have now indicated that they would prefer to received
e-mails in the future.
The Hundred Shows group, under the excellent leadership of Trevor Conway, has gone from strength to strength in achieving its aim of producing live entertainment to suit different tastes and age groups in Petham Village Hall. Perhaps the highlight was an audiovisual presentation by Ben Osborne entitled “Jungle Journeys”. Details regarding the forthcoming programme have been sent to members and each event will be fully publicised to a wider audience. Since the launch, the productions have shown a financial surplus of £974.
Each of the autumn and winter Hundred Talks has attracted an appreciative audience, with the programme covering a wide variety of subjects. The new season started in October with the theme of “Half a Dozen Hundred Features” in which a group of local speakers highlighted some of the attributes that make The Hundred villages so attractive. Thanks go to Ian and Pat Wrigley who continue to organise such a popular programme of Hundred Talks.
Special thanks also go to Alison and John
Wiltshier who have organised a programme of autumn and winter Hundred Walks.
The Chairman concluded by recording his thanks to the Committee members for all
the work and effort that they have put into running The Hundred over the past
year.
5) Richard Wickham presented and talked to the Accounts for the year ended
31.10.07. These showed an excess of income over expenditure of £673.33, mainly
as a result of surpluses from most of The Hundred Shows. However, there is an
outstanding invoice of £175 which will reduce the excess to £498. A new Business
Instant Access Account was opened during the year on which interest of £37.71
was accrued. The cost of Postage and Stationery (£205.21) was for the last two
years combined. There should be no expenditure for Advertising in future as this
related to paid Parish Magazine adverts which will be discontinued.
Bank balances as at 31.10.07 were £1152
(current account) and £2000 (Instant Access account).
There was a suggestion from the floor that the interest be allowed to accumulate
on the Instant Access account.
The Accounts were unanimously accepted.
6) Richard Wickham asked for comments from members.
John Wiltshier felt that the Talks should be better attended and suggested that
Parish Magazine advertising be undertaken again. Ian Wrigley advised that
articles about individual talks are produced for the Parish Magazines and fed
into the local papers’ news.
Peter Crouch considered that personal recommendations would always be successful
in encouraging greater attendance.
In answer to a question from Evelyn Crouch, the Chairman advised the names of
the villages within The Hundred, i.e., Bossingham, Nackington, Lower Hardres,
Petham, Stelling Minnis, Upper Hardres and Waltham.
Ian Wrigley advised the reasons for cutting back the number of talks, i.e., the
April one was dropped because of an annual low turn-out at talks around that
time, and the December one has been replaced by the Christmas Show.
Trevor Conway advised that the cost of tickets for the Hundred Shows remain
fairly high despite “profits” from previous shows, because of the fact that the
subsidies formerly received will no longer be forthcoming.
Trevor was congratulated for his hard work and management in relation to the
shows.
7) There being no additional proposals regarding Officers or the Committee, it
was proposed by Peter Crouch and seconded by John Wiltshier that Richard Wickham
be re-elected to the Chair (also to Treasurer) and David Barlow be re-elected as
Secretary. This was passed and the Committee was re-elected en bloc.
