DO I NEED AN IDENTITY TAG?                    Want to order one now?

The short answer is YES YOU DO.   The 1992 Control of dogs act requires that every dog whilst is a highway or public resort must wear a collar with the name and address of the owner inscribed on it or on a plate or badge attached to it.  A public highway is a road or other way over which the public have the right to pass to and fro; it need not necessarily be maintained by a highway authority.  A Place of public resort has been said to mean a place to which the public goes as a mater of fact, as distinct from a matter of right, and notwithstanding that a charge is made for admission.

In this context, for example, the Minnis is a Public resort and the tracks across it are highways.

An inscribed identity tag (badge or plate) attached to a collar or an inscription on the collar itself are required even if the dog is microchipped.  There are some exceptions relating to working, rescue, armed forces and Customs & excise dogs.  If in doubt consult the Dog Warden at your local Council.

The maximum fine for not complying is £5000

(Five Thousand Pounds).

Elham Dog Club is able to obtain suitable disks in Brass, Chrome or plastic in a variety of shapes and sizes for a fixed charge (delivery to UK addresses only) of £4.65 (Four pounds 65 pence)  for metal for metal £4.10 (Four pounds ten pence) for plastic with up to 5 lines of engraving on either side  (10 lines in all).  These would be delivered direct to your home from our supplier.  Most of our people have their surname and phone number(s) on one side and address on the other.  For information on this service or to place an order e-mail nsmith83@talk21.com.  You can pay by cheque or by PayPal.  If you are a member of the dog club, then please order at the club to receive the club discount.
