I would like to draw attention to a new initiative from KCC.
They are promoting “Kentcarshare” which is a free, simple, simple,
internet-based service that enables you to register your car journey on-line and
find others to share the cost. It will also reduce the number of cars on the
road at busy times.
How does it work? You log on to
www.kent.gov.uk/carshare. You register your details together with your
journey and any special conditions such as same gender only, share cars or as
passenger only, work colleagues, specific times etc. The system will search for
potential carsharers and list possible matches. There is safety advice and terms
and conditions.
The immediate thought is that it is aimed at travel to work, which it is. Indeed
a number of employers are in partnership with KCC and operating the scheme.
However it can apply to social activities, the weekly shop, or even the school
run. Now there’s a thought for Stelling Minnis. What about sharing the daily
journey to the Primary School? A target might be to reduce the cars outside the
school by half. It’s a thought.
